Intraoral scanning-the key to the future of orthodontics! The 3M True Definition Intraoral Scanner is now available at Levens Orthodontics

Over the past few years there have been many new innovative ways to move teeth introduced in Orthodontics. Braces and aligners are now made for each patient and each individual tooth. The one key to all of these great products is giving the laboratory a perfect replica of the patient’s teeth to make the braces. In the past, orthodontists without an intraoral scanner had to make impressions (molds) of the patient’s teeth using the same goopy materials that has been used for the decades. Now you can kiss the molds goodbye!

At Levens Orthodontics we recently invested in the first 3M True Definition Intraoral Scanner in the metropolitan area. Now, not only do we now avoid having to make molds of your teeth, but we can also make incredibly accurate and useful models of your teeth for even better treatment. We use these digital models to help diagnose and plan your treatment in ways that were impossible just a few years ago.

3M True Definition Intraoral Scanner

The accuracy of digital impressions is amazing! The 3M True Definition scanner is the most accurate intraoral scanner available.

How does the True Definition scanner work?

Think of a GoPro® video camera on a small wand. That’s how the True Definition Scanner works. But instead of video, the scanner technology picks up all the smallest details of the shape of each of your teeth.

By simply passing the optic lens of the wand over your teeth the scan is completed by the software. In about 3 or 4 minutes your entire mouth is scanned for us to show you the details and review your treatment plan. It’s 100% customized and 100% comfortable.

The data from your scan is then uploaded in about 5 minutes to the laboratories we use to store your digital impressions in the cloud and to laboratories that make your 100% customized aligners or braces. For laboratories we regularly use around the globe, it takes about 30 minutes for them to have all the information ready to use from your scan. It’s really quite remarkable compared to the 2 – 3 weeks it used to take for us to ship old-fashioned impressions (molds) to the laboratories. All of this saves you even more time in treatment.
